Mask 1

So I passed a shop in town today selling these exquisite Venetian masks, so I popped in and had a chat with the sales guy, and was amazed to learn they were only made of papier mache and acrylic! And stuff like feathers, sequins and stuff stuck on, but they were really stunning. So I says, I wonder if I could do that. So here's stage one, papier mache layered onto a mask mould I had at home. Lets see how it goes!

Cat Thing

I hadn't got much to do today. So I grabbed some odd bit of material and made this cat thing.

Pop-up Book

I started this thing yesterday to have in for this morning, so that's why its terrible! It was completely rushed, but I think for a one day job its not so bad. It's based on the doll I made a couple of months ago.

Just the embroidery on her face to do!

Doll pockets and collar

Slowly but surely she's coming along. I added pockets and a frilly collar to my dolly Polly today. Also, I got to see how my classmates were getting on with their dolls and I'm so impressed, there are some really amazing creations! I hope to have mine finished in the next couple of days, so stay tuned!

Doll shoes and hair

Since I've less than a week until my doll (Polly) needs to be handed in, I've been doing a lot of work on her. Yesterday I made a pair of leather booties with bells that I'm so proud of, mainly because my sewing skills seem to be improving! Today I gave her a lovely head of red hair, as planned on my design board. I have to give her a face, I'll probably embroider it, and a top. I may also add another layer to her skirt... we'll see!

Fimo Head 2

I made this a few weeks ago, I think I uploaded the body already, but I made a dodgy looking head for it and attached it to the body. It looks, well, just very dodgy. When I get a few assignments out of the way I'll come back to it and try to make it look someway human!

Puppet / Doll Update

Ok, first of all so so soooo sorry for the lack of posts through March, but there was the mid-term, St. Patricks day, multiple shindigs and chinwags, I just couldn't find the time! So anyway, here's my doll's body that I got done the other day. I'm working on the clothes at the moment, still undecided about a few things. I can't wait to add the hair and facial features!

Design Board for Puppet/Doll

This is my design board for my doll. I've decided that I'm going to do it in fabric, after trying out different ways to make it this just seems the best for me. I will try to develop the prototypes a bit further though just for the extra marks (I've a fimo head in the oven as I write).
I've to write out a few points to stick up on the board, just blurbs about materials and that sort of thing.
Will be working on the fabric body all this week, stay tuned!

Cinderella Dolly

Here's a little prototype thing I made today, I think I'm going to develop it into a Cinderella type characte just for fun...it was my Mam's idea...love you Mammy! Its made from just wire and masking tape. I'm gonna use felt / stuffing / fabric and other stuff to finish her off. And I'm aware she needs a head! Her head, hands and feet are gonna be femo...

Fimo Head Painted

I did a really bad paint job on this guy, could have been sooooooo much better. Anyway, here it is for your enjoyment...kinda...

Fabric Face

This was another experiment for the faces of my puppet / doll. I've done Papier Mache, Fimo and now fabric. I think I like this the most and will end up using it for my final piece.

First Attempt @ Fimo

We did a workshop in college today demonstrating FEMO clay, or polymer. I'd never used it before, but I made this little head from it. He started to melt and get a bit droopy so I just let the clay do what it wanted and it kind of worked out OK, if just a bit creepy...

Paper Mache head

Started coverin my paper mache head thing today, as an experiment on how I'm gonna mak the puppet. Looks a little scary...hopefully it'll get better! (",)
